RICHARD NEUTRA

Dear Sophie -

European and Los Angeles culture has a strong architectural connection.

The pre WW2 Europeans sought a new life largely for political reasons, professional aspirations plus a temperate climate and flocked to California.

NEUTRA is considered one of modernisms most important architects. He reaches out to the landscape and incorporates with elegant, formal flowing spaces. Neutra moved from Vienna Austria to Los Angeles California where he first lived with his friend and fellow architect Rudolf SCHINDLER.  He worked for FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT before starting his own practice.  He was a great businessman as well as an architect. He published his theories, had his work photographed by JULIUS SHULMAN and got a lot of famous projects from Hollywood directors.  His major works span from the 1930's thru the 1960's.

The next time we are in Los Angeles can drive around and see them!!  (We trick or treated at one of his houses when you were a pink princess.)

With love,

Mom
