EDWARD STEICHEN

Dear Sophie -

EDWARD STEICHEN was a colleague and friend of Stiegltiz who in addition to his fine art career was a fashion photographer for Vogue and Vanity Fair, capturing the styles and celebrity of the time. (Here you'll find a treasure trove of 1920's flapper girls at their best!)

While serving as the director of photgtaphy at MOMA, Steichen curated an exhibition titled "THE FAMILY OF MAN." Selecting among the finest photographers from around the globe, he left a legacy of images marking the mid 20th century.

With love,

Mom

(That's Colette... cute, eh?)

In 1929 while her husband ALFRED STIEGLITZ was a preeminant photographer and gallerist in Manhattan, Okeefe pioneered out to New Mexico where she she ultimately settled in 1949.  There she sought independence and inspiration from the landscape.

She was strong self-made person.  Okeefe lived and work in Abiqu New Mexico outside of Taos until she was 98 years old. Her Houses -

Some artistic peers and friends include PAUL STRAND, ARTHUR DOVE & MARSDEN HARTLEY. All fabulous. Our wedding reception was in a room filled with her paintings.
