EILEEN GRAY

Dear Sophie -

The great architect designer EILEEN GRAY was a disciple of LE CORBUSIER, actively working in Paris in the 1920's & 30"s.

Although her structures didn't survive the war, her furniture and textiles prevail, fundamental to our modernist vocabulary today.

Born in Ireland, she spent her entire adult life in France up through her 98th year.

With love,

Mom

LE CORBUSIER

LE CORBUSIER
Dear Sophie -

LE CORBUSIER - Many say that Le Corbusier (or Corbu for short) is the father of modernism.  Check out the cute round glasses!

Born in Switzerland 1887 and became a resident of France. died 1965.  Did many homes in France in the 20's before WW11.  You can see his own home in central Paris, and his most famous home for a client in the suburbs of Paris called "The Villa Savoye".  Of course the spectacular cathedral in Ronchamp and even did large housing projects in Marseille and a civic project in Chandigarh, India.   He had a lot of theories about housing and the quality of life for masses of people.  He published a lot and has been an inspiration for generations.  He designed furniture and painted too!  The man did it all.

Love, Mom
