RUTH ASAWA weaves these beautiful forms with wire. This work invokes femininity with its technique and the roundness of the forms. Besides the installation that we love at the De Young, there are several public commissions throughout SF including the fountains in Japantown near BENKYODO and a big sculptural piece by LEVI'S.
Ruth Asawa and her family were interned along with 120,000 other people of Japanese ancestry during WW11. It was a fearful time and a terrible mistake. Like you, she was 16 years old.
