Dear Sophie -
ANSEL ADAMS was a landscape photographer and a passionate environmental activist, participating in the Sierra Club for the preservation of Yosemite and the surrounding wilderness. He spoke out on behalf of causes he supported including defending the citizens in internment camps during WW2. His studio was at the base of Yosemite which is now a gallery. He was a member of the San Francisco group titled F64 which included the photographers IMOGEN CUNNINGHAM and EDWARD WESTON.
(check out the woodie!!)
With love,
Mom
