JULIUS SHULMAN

Dear Sophie -

One of the great things about the photographer JULIUS SHULMAN is that he enjoyed a prolific career right up to his ripe age of 98 years. (He passed away only a few years ago.)

SHULMAN chronicled the entire Case Study House Program and was the mid centrury modernism go-to guy.  We have come to know and understand the architecture of Los Angeles literally thru his lense.

One of my prized possessions is a gorgeous vintage Shulman image of a trailer built by Schindler.  (I asked daddy for it for one of my birthdays.)

You met Julius Shulman.  You were in a car seat, about 5 months old.  (He snapped a shot of you which I have to find. ) He was irritable but charming nevertheless.  He called Albert a meiser which I was offended by, but he later shifted his script and even used an image of Albert's suspended table as the cover of the ultimate compendium of his life's work.

go figure.

With love,

Mom.
